The Royal Society’s 350th

Screen shot 2009-11-30 at 7.21.11 AMMedical and science history buff alert: The Royal Society is celebrating its 350th birthday (wow) with a great website called Trailblazing, providing free access to some of their most important articles since 1650. Unfortunately I can’t link to the individual articles, but they’ve got dog to dog transfusions, keeping a dog alive by blowing a “bellows” into its lungs, “An account of inoculation with small pox,” and “The success of willow bark in the treatment of fever.” Fascinating to read, and absolutely beautiful medical illustrations. Medicine, you’ve come a long way, baby.
